Since 1932, the name ANTHRAFILT has been synonymous with the highest
standard. ANTHRAFILT is the world's finest filter media, and it is
produced exclusively by CARBON SALES, INC. Although its potential
for water treatment was recognized in ancient times, anthracite coal was
not used for that purpose until the beginning of this century. Initial
experiments using fine coal particles indicated that many improvements
in water quality might be realized through the use of uniformly sized grains
of anthracite as filtration media.
There have been many technological changes since those early experiments.
Today ANTHRAFILT is prepared from anthracite coal extracted from selected
veins using draglines of up to 85 cubic yard capacity. This anthracite
is then crushed in preparation plants. Extraneous rock and dirt are
removed. The coal which remains is separated into various standard
burning and metallurgical sizes. That anthracite which is destined for
water filtration is further refined in CARBON SALES' own filter media plant
to customer specifications.
At CARBON SALES, INC., we consider our Quality Control standards second
to none. All potential coals from preparation plants are routinely
tested for Specific Gravity, Acid Solubility, and Grain Size Distribution
prior to acceptance for shipment to the processing plant. Upon arrival,
this anthracite is sampled and tested again before beginning even the first
of a series of processes which will create ANTHRAFILT. In order to
maintain the quality of a very wide range of specifications, sampling and
testing must continue through each step of the ANTHRAFILT sizing process.
Composite samples are collected and tested continuously by laboratory personnel.
Each production run of ANTHRAFILT is checked again at our packaging
plant. Samples are extracted and composited into lot groupings and
tested for size. Random lots are chosen for complete analysis of
Effective Size, Uniformity Coefficient, Specific Gravity, Acid Solubility,
and MOH hardness. The large number of analyses completed each day,
(we manufacture more than 300 specifications), and the record keeping that
accompanies them are computer controlled. After each order is shipped,
these recorded analyses are maintained permanently. We have also
expanded the computer function to the sales branch of the company so that
we can offer customers fast and accurate projections as to the availability
of specific sizes for future requirements. |
